Appendix 1

The following appendix describes the differences between the types of each stamp in Booklet XMA B14b. In all cases the enlargements on the left are the stamps numbered (1); the enlargments in the centre or at the right (if there are only two enlargments) are the stamps numbered (2) and the enlargements at the right (if there are three enlargments) are the stamps numbered (3). The numbers (1), (2) and (3) are allocated to stamps according to their position in the booklet pane; if the pane is viewed with the vertical format stamps upright, the numbers run from top to bottom.
I have as yet been unable to locate an example of Booklet XMA B14d, but individual stamps of that printing that I have seen show the same major design types as those from the previous printing. However, there is so little difference between the two types of XMA143b that I cannot be sure of the differences between the two types of XMA143d.

50c stamps, third series

The booklet containing these stamps includes the message "Special thanks to the students of St Mary's College Ponsonby Auckland whose wonderful designs adorn our Christmas Stamp issue." The individual students contributing these designs do not appear to be named anywhere in the booklet, but the strong similarity of linework within each basic type indicates that this was a colouring competition of some sort.
